The filmmaker Lars von Trier, whose remarks about Hitler caused a storm at Cannes, said he was "proud" of his new status as persona non grata on the Croisette. This is the online site Danish Ekstra Bladet (bp dk), which gives us the reactions of the director. "This is perhaps the first time in film history this has happened." In an interview with Danish TV2 News Channel, von Trier has said he believes "that one reason (of exclusion from Cannes) is that the French themselves ill treated the Jews during the Second World War." The filmmaker has also renewed his apologies, saying that "the Holocaust was the worst crimes ever committed" and that "he had nothing against Jews."
