At the age of 35 years, Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, has begun serving his sentence for illegal possession of weapons. He will spend the next two years in prison. In 2007, after a concert by Lil Wayne, the rapper was arrested while a semi-automatic pistol was in his car. He pleaded guilty last December and sentenced to two years imprisonment followed by 18 months of probation.
"Whether you're a musician awarded a Grammy or a teenager carrying a weapon on behalf of a friend, justice is blind," said attorney Cyrus Vance, who is also responsible for proving the guilt of the Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn. In pleading guilty, Ja Rule has avoided a trial and escaped a harsher sentence.
